los angeles - downtown: langer's deli

tommy fills up at langer's deli...

#44 - hot pastrami, sauerkraut and nippy cheese grilled on rye
#19 - pastrami, swiss cheese, cole slaw, and russian style dressing

tommy says: yummmm... langer's is known for their pastrami sandwiches with #19 being the most popular, but #44 was equally tasty, if not better. simply delicious!

santa monica: bar pintxo

parfait of foie with carmelized onions and apples

gambas al ajillo

coca pintxo

dungeness crab wrapped with smoked salmon
crimini mushroom, jamon and diced vegetables

croquetas de pollo y jamon

tommy says: menu items are hit or miss. the parfait of foie and the gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp) were amazing!!! the crab and crimini mushrooms were ok, the croquetas were underwhelming and the coco pintxo (it was the special of the day) was no good. they also have an extensive wine list featuring spanish wines. no happy hour specials. go, but choose wisely...

santa monica: wildflour pizza

tommy samples a slice at wildflour pizza in santa monica...

margherita

tommy says: this is not a true thin crust pizza. the crust is on the fluffy side and overall this was just a blah piece of pie. a significantly better slice (true ny style thin crust) can be found at joe's.

los angeles - koreatown: hodori

tommy visits the ktown institution, hodori, for some late night grub...

assorted banchan

kimchee pajun (kimchee pancake)
yookaejang

kal gooksoo

ddukboki

tommy says: hodori isn't the type of place you go because it has phenomenal food. you go to hodori because it's open 24/7 and its a ktown institution. the food is tasty, prices are good, and the sassy yet friendly servers can be quite entertaining. gets busy around 2:00am, as this is a popular eatery to soak up the alcohol after a night of clubbing. come during this time to see many red faces.
