san gabriel valley - san gabriel: nubi yogurt
tommy gives nubi yogurt a whirl...
taro tart yogurt with blueberries and mochi
tommy says: taro tart was fantastic, mango tart was good, raspberry/pomegranate was too sweet. similar to yogurtland and yogurtworld. self-serve yogurt in a variety of flavors, both tart and non-tart. available flavors during the day of the visit included blueberry tart, taro tart, green apple tart, mango tart, original tart, raspberry/pomegranate tart, pineapple sorbet, strawberry no-sugar added, cafe latte, peanut butter low-fat, pistachio, french vanilla. all flavors are non-fat except where noted. toppings are also self-serve and the price of the tasty treat is $0.38/oz.

san gabriel valley - san gabriel: shanghai restaurant
tommy has a so-so dinner at shanghai restaurant in san gabriel...
winter melon soup with bamboo and ham
sauteed shrimp
house special fried rice
soup dumplings
tommy says: the soup was nice a light, yet had great flavor. shrimp was simple and good as well. the fried rice was too greasy and the soup dumplings were all broken so there was no soup in the dumpling -- which is the whole point of eating the dumpling... disappointing. overall, so-so food.

los angeles - hollywood: falcon
tommy feeds at falcon in hollywood...
wild arugula and parsley salad: balsamic emulsion, toasted hazelnuts, shaved capricola, black grapes
caramelized ricotta gnocchi: ricotta dumplings, wild mushrooms, sage, roasted butternut squash, parmesan, cream
roast filet mignon: prime beef tenderloin, potato galette, tempura french green beans, red wine jus
honey-milk chocolate frozen parfait with tangerine and peppermint syrup
fresh seasonal berries in sweet red wine reduction, panna cotta, and mini cookies
tommy says: overall, the food was ok, but not worth the price. salad wasn't properly dressed, gnocchi was super heavy, steak was ok, chocolate parfait was too sweet, panna cotta had an odd flavor to it... no need to go revisit. good for drinks, but not for food.

tommy is bummed about brunch at bld...
tomato soup
ode to butterfields: thinly sliced flatiron steak, poached eggs, cabernet sauvignon hollandaise, house made english muffin, fingerling potatoes
spanish scramble: chorizo, lomo, smoked paprika, fingerling potatoes, roasted piquillo peppers, manchego cheese
tommy says: the tomato soup was unbelievably bland; it tasted like thick water. the hollandaise on the ode to butterfields had congealed to an odd texture and was also flavorless. the steak had been ordered medium rare but came out well done. the poached eggs were also cooked too long and came out soft boiled instead. the fingerling potatoes were crisp and tasty. the spanish scramble and the coffee were good.
