hot dried plums wrapped in lean bacon and garnished with caramelized walnuts

chicken pierogie with sorrel sauce

cheese, potato, and onion pierogies

tommy says: appetizers are half off and drinks are $1 off during happy hour, wednesday through friday 6pm-8pm on the patio. plums were a bit too sweet. chicken pierogies, steak tartar, and potato pancakes were a little on the bland side. sausage and cheese pierogies were good.

west la: napa valley grille

tommy nibbles on the happy hour specials at napa valley grille in westwood...

sliders

tomato, prosciutto, and mushroom pizza

fish & chips with balsamic aioli

tommy says: sliders weren't bad, $2 each and your choice of cheddar, blue, or mozzarella cheese. pizza would be something to pass on - the crust tasted like a microwave oven pizza. bleh. fish & chips were passable, but not particularly noteworthy. during happy hour (daily from 3-7pm, then again 9pm-12am) wine and well drinks are $6 and beers are $4. napa valley grille brings in an older crowd that is a bit more polished. not quite the fun or hip atmosphere that a happy hour usually brings out, but then again, fun can be had anywhere with the right company!

santa monica: the yard

tommy has happy time at the yard in santa monica...

mini pulled pork sandwiches

fish tacos

sliders

tommy says: the drinks and food were all so-so. sliders were dry and bland, the fish tacos were no good, but the pulled pork sandwiches were ok. they weren't great, but just ok, and out of the three items sampled they were the best, though that isn't saying much. they could've been more flavorful, but the bread was nicely toasted. cool, but chill atmosphere. happy hour is from 5-7pm daily. $5 margaritas and cosmos, $3 beers, and $5-$6 food items.

burrata alla caprese con balsamico: roma tomato with fresh burrata cheese in balsamic vinaigrette, flavored with basil-infused oil

tommy says: the burrata was pretty good, the fritto misto was decent as well, but the piadina prosciutto was not good. appetizers and other select menu items are 50% off during happy hour which is from 4-7pm monday - friday. drink specials include select beers for $4, house wines for $6, cocktails/martinis $7, and premium wines for $8. so-so happy hour, and super slow service.

spicy tuna tartare

albacore sashimi salad

fried calamari with curry mayonnaise dip

tommy says: ok food menu for happy hour, but drink specials are limited to 2 cocktails! not even a beer special!! albacore sashimi salad and spicy tuna tartare were pretty good, but the tuna tartare didn't have any heat. happy hour food specials are $4 or $5 and lasts from 5-7pm. santa monica: south

tommy unwinds at south in santa monica during happy hour...

mac 'n cheese

tex mex nachos

chicken 'n waffle sliders

tommy says: typical bar food menu and typical bar food quality... everything was edible (it was after all, consumed), but nothing was all that great. mac 'n cheese was just buttered noodles with cheese on the top, cheese wasn't mixed in with the noodles. the beans on the nachos were not refried, but baked beans like the kind that you get in pork 'n beans. the sliders sounded better than they were. the chicken tasted like frozen chicken you buy at costco and heat in the oven and the waffle was soggy. happy hour is from 3-8pm and they have $3 beers, $10 pitchers, and 1/2 off appetizers are wings, fries, chicken strips and nachos.

santa monica: bodega wine bar

tommy celebrates surviving another week by partaking in bodgea's happy hour

bruschetta and olive tapenade with crostini

pepperoni and mushroom pizza

tommy says: happy hour (ends at 7pm) food menu is limited to a couple of pizzas, bruschetta, and hummus. wine is $5/glass, beers are $3! the bruschetta and pizza were ok, but nothing special. the crust on the pizza was very fluffy and bready... so thin crust lovers may want to avoid it. nice and chill ambiance to throw a few back and take the edge off.
